Via Kottke, we very much enjoyed this introduction to the talent and musical stylings of Brussels musical ensemble the Casimir Liberski ReTrio through their Z Suites sessions album, thirteen tracks of Hyrule jazz, interpreting theme classic themes from the Legend of Zelda (see previously here and here). The composer and sounder director for the franchise, Kōji Kondō (近藤 浩治), originally wanted to use Maurice Ravel’s Boléro as the game’s main theme but learning late in production that the work was not yet in the public domain, instead improved a new instrumental arrangement—in one day. Much more at the links above.
